Duphalac is an over-the-counter medicine containing a laxative called lactulose. It softens the stool and makes it easier to pass by drawing water into the intestine. The product is not absorbed into the body.

Without a doctor's recommendation, Duphalac can be used to treat constipation (infrequent bowel movements, hard and dry stools) and conditions where soft stools are required.

Only after consulting a doctor, Duphalac can be used to treat hepatic encephalopathy (brain damage due to liver failure with neurological and psychiatric symptoms).

The preparation can be used by children and adults. However, use in children (including infants and toddlers) should be exceptional and always under medical supervision.

Ingredients:

  • The active substance of Duphalac is lactulose. One ml of Duphalac oral solution contains lactulosi solutio corresponding to lactulosum 667 mg.
  • Duphalac does not contain any excipients. However, it may contain sulfite and sugars such as lactose, galactose and fructose as a residue of synthesis.

Method of use:

  • Always use this product exactly in accordance with the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Dosage for constipation or in cases where it is necessary to form a soft stool: The dose is taken once a day, for example during breakfast, or divided into two daily doses in the morning and at noon (i.e. half of the daily dose is taken 2 times a day).
  • Dosage in hepatic encephalopathy (for adults only): The initial dose in hepatic encephalopathy is 30 to 45 ml of oral solution 3 to 4 times a day. This dose can be adjusted to a maintenance dose so that you have 2-3 soft stools per day.
  • Take your doses at the same time each day.
  • Swallow the medicine all at once.
  • Do not keep it in your mouth for a long time.
  • You can take Duphalac solution undiluted or diluted with liquid.
  • Duphalac can be taken with or without food.

Notice:

  • Read the package leaflet carefully.
  • Do not administer the product to children and adolescents under the age of 14 without a doctor's prescription
  • Not suitable for allergies / hypersensitivity to lactulose and any other substance contained in the product.
  • Do not take the product if you suffer from galactsemia, intestinal obstruction and perforation of the digestive tract.
