Povidone-iodine has a comprehensive germicidal effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses and certain protozoa.
Reliable disinfection largely prevents infections and promotes rapid, problem-free healing.
There is no need to fear that infectious pathogens will develop resistance (resistance) to povidone-iodine due to its mode of action.
By binding to povidone, the iodine largely loses the irritating properties of alcoholic iodine preparations and is well tolerated by skin, mucous membranes and wounds.
The iodine decolorizes during the action process, so the depth of the brown color indicates its effectiveness. If discoloration occurs, additional dosage is required. Povidone-iodine is water-soluble and easy to wash off.

    field of use

    • Skin and mucous membrane disinfection, such as before operations, gynecological and obstetric procedures, bladder catheterization, tissue removal (biopsies), injections, punctures for fluid or blood collection, eye procedures
    • Antiseptic wound treatment, burns
    • Hygienic and surgical hand disinfection

    Contraindications

Betaisodona solution standardized must NOT be used

    • if you are allergic to povidone-iodine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6,
    • if you suffer from an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or other thyroid diseases,
    • if you suffer from the rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring,
    • before and after radiotherapy of the thyroid with iodine (radio-iodine therapy) until the end of the treatment.

    Interactions

DO NOT use at the same time

    • Betaisodona solution standardized and hydrogen peroxide, enzymatic or silver- and taurolidine-containing wound treatment agents or disinfectants, as this leads to a mutual weakening of the effect,
    • Betaisodona solution standardized and mercury-containing preparations, as a corrosive compound (mercury iodide) can form,
    • Betaisodona solution standardized and octenidine-containing wound treatment products, as dark discoloration can occur temporarily,
    • Betaisodona solution standardized and taurolidine, a chemotherapy drug against bacteria and fungi, as taurolidine can be converted into an acid (formic acid) that causes intense burning.

Protein, blood or pus components can have a standardized effect on the effectiveness of Betaisodona solution.
If you are receiving lithium therapy, Betaisodona solution should be used standardized with caution and only for a short time. In this case, larger amounts of iodine can be absorbed through the skin.

    Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
It may only be used by pregnant women and during breastfeeding following the express instructions of a doctor; Monitoring thyroid function in the mother or infant is indicated. Treatment should only last for a short time. Iodine enters the fetus (unborn child) via the placenta and also passes into breast milk.
Accidental oral ingestion of Betaisodona solution by the infant through contact with the treated part of the breastfeeding mother's body must be avoided.

    Application

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Betaisodona solution standardized, undiluted or diluted, only applied externally.

Do not pour into hot water or heat!

The solution is not suitable for ingestion.

For wound treatment (burns and other wounds), hand disinfection and skin disinfection, before surgical procedures, bladder catheterization, injections, tissue removal (biopsies), injections, punctures (punctures) for fluid or blood collection, Betaisodona solution should be used in a standardized undiluted form. It can be used several times a day.

Skin disinfection before, for example, injections, punctures and blood samples:
apply undiluted; Allow to dry. Rub undiluted skin disinfectant before operations and keep the skin moist for 5 minutes

Disinfection of mucous membranes and adjacent areas before operations:
rinse undiluted for at least 30 seconds or wet completely

    Hygienic hand disinfection:
    2 x 3 ml undiluted - 30 seconds exposure time each

    Surgical hand disinfection:
    2 x 5 ml undiluted – 2.5 minutes exposure time each

When preparing for surgery, accumulations of Betaisodona solution must be avoided standardized among the patient (due to possible skin irritation from prolonged contact). Furthermore, accumulation can cause burns to the skin.

Betaisodona solution standardized can be used for the following applications diluted with tap water, physiological saline solution or Ringer's solution. One cap holds 5 ml (for pack sizes of 15 ml and 100 ml).

Eye procedures: The dilution is prepared as a sterile dilution by your doctor or pharmacist.
Dilutions should only be made immediately before use and consumed as soon as possible.
For wound treatment, after using the Betaisodona solution, you can also use standardized Betaisodona wound gel to apply to the wound. Do not use Betaisodona solution standardized together with wound treatment products other than Betaisodona.

Newborns and infants under 6 months of age.
For newborns and infants up to 6 months of age, Betaisodona solution is to be used in a standardized manner only after a strict benefit/risk assessment by the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.
