    Herposicc is a lip ointment with a mild pain-relieving effect.

    Herposicc is used for the local symptomatic treatment of herpes labialis (cold sores). The active ingredient benzocaine has a pain-relieving effect, while zinc oxide has a slightly astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.

    If you don't feel better after a few days or even feel worse, contact your doctor.

    Contraindications

    Herposicc must not be used

    • if you are allergic to benzocaine, zinc oxide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
    • in infants and toddlers up to 2 years.

    Interactions

    Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using any other medicines, have recently taken/used any other medicines or might take/use any other medicines.

    Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility/childbearing potential

    If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. Herposicc should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if medically necessary and should only be used in the lip area.

    Application

    Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

    For use on the skin (lips only).

    • If necessary, apply a lentil-sized amount of ointment thinly to the lips several times a day.
    • The ointment should be applied as early as possible.
    • The duration of use depends on the duration of the illness.

    Side effects

    Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

    Very rare (affects less than 1 person in 10,000): It is known from literature case reports that the use of benzocaine on mucous membranes can lead to methemoglobinemia in very rare cases. An increased proportion of methemoglobin in the blood leads to a lack of oxygen and a blue-red discoloration of the skin.

    Rare (affects 1 to 10 people in 10,000): In rare cases, local irritation may occur.

    composition

    The active ingredients are: Benzocaine and zinc oxide.
    1 g of ointment contains 14 mg of benzocaine and 36 mg of zinc oxide.

    The other ingredients are: yellow petroleum jelly, wool wax alcohol ointment, wool wax, talc, sulfur for external use, phenol.
