Levocetirizin Hexal 5 mg - film-coated tablets contain the active ingredient levocetirizine.
Levocetirizine Hexal is an anti-allergic medicine. It is used to treat symptoms of allergic diseases such as:

    • allergic rhinitis (including persistent allergic rhinitis)
    • chronic hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria)

If you don't feel better after 3 days or even feel worse, contact your doctor.

    Contraindications

Levocetirizin Hexal must not be taken if:

    • You are allergic to levocetirizine dihydrochloride, cetirizine, hydroxyzine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6
    • You suffer from severe renal impairment (severe renal insufficiency with a creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min)

    Interactions

Taking Levocetirizin Hexal together with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Taking Levocetirizine Hexal with food, drink and alcohol
Caution is advised when taking Levocetirizine Hexal together with alcohol or other drugs that affect the brain.
In sensitive patients, the simultaneous administration of Levocetirizine Hexal and alcohol or other agents that act on the brain could lead to an additional reduction in alertness and reduced performance.
Levocetirizin Hexal can be taken with or without meals.

    Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

    Driving and using machines
Some patients treated with levocetirizine may experience sleepiness/drowsiness, tiredness and fatigue. If you intend to drive a vehicle, carry out potentially dangerous tasks or use machines, it is first recommended to wait and monitor your reaction to the medicine. However, in special studies, no impairment of the attention, reaction ability and driving ability of healthy test subjects was found after taking levocetirizine in the recommended dosage.

    Application

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

The recommended dose for adults and children 6 years and older is one tablet daily.

    Renal and liver dysfunction
Patients with impaired kidney function and patients with simultaneous impaired liver and kidney function may receive a lower dose, which depends on the severity of the kidney disease and, in children, also on body weight. The dose will be determined by your doctor.
Patients with severely impaired kidney function must not take Levocetirizin Hexal.
Patients with only impaired liver function should take the normal prescribed dose.

Elderly patients aged 65 years and over
If renal function is normal, no dosage adjustment is required in elderly patients.

    Use in children
The use of Levocetirizine Hexal 5 mg - film-coated tablets is not recommended for children under 6 years of age as no dose adjustment is possible with the film-coated tablets.

How and when should you take Levocetirizin Hexal?
The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with water. It can be taken with or without meals.
The duration of treatment depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms. Your doctor or pharmacist will advise you on this.
