Note: Not all sleep disorders require drug therapy. They are often an expression of physical or mental illnesses and can be influenced by other measures or therapy for the underlying illness. Therefore, if sleep disorders persist for a long time, there is no need for long-term treatment with Hoggar Night; instead, you should consult your doctor. If you don't feel better or feel worse after 7 days, contact your doctor.

Contraindications

Hoggar Night must NOT be taken

  • if you are allergic to doxylamine, other antihistamines or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6,
  • in acute asthma attacks,
  • for glaucoma (narrow-angle glaucoma),
  • in adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma),
  • in case of enlargement of the prostate gland (prostatic hypertrophy) with residual urine formation,
  • in the case of acute poisoning by alcohol, or overdose of sleeping pills or painkillers or psychotropic drugs (neuroleptics, tranquilizers, antidepressants, lithium),
  • in seizures (epilepsy),
  • with simultaneous treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors. 

Interactions

The effects of Hoggar Night and can reinforce each other

  • centrally acting medicines (such as psychotropic drugs, sleeping pills, painkillers, anaesthetics, anti-seizure drugs - epilepsy),
  • other medicines with anticholinergic effects (e.g. biperiden for Parkinson's disease, tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors for the treatment of depressive disorders), resulting in e.g. life-threatening intestinal paralysis, urinary retention, acute increase in intraocular pressure.

The effect of can be weakened

  • Phenytoin (for seizures such as epilepsy),
  • Neuroleptics (against mental illnesses).

When taking/using Hoggar Night at the same time

  • and medicines for high blood pressure (antihypertensives) that act on the central nervous system (e.g. Guanabenz, clonidine, alpha-methyldopa) increased tiredness and fatigue may occur.
  • Signs of beginning inner ear damage caused by other medicines (e.g. aminoglycoside antibiotics, some painkillers, some diuretics) may be weakened.
  • Skin test results can be distorted (false negative).
  • Epinephrine should not be used (vasodilation, drop in blood pressure, accelerated heart rate can occur).
  • and monoamine oxidase inhibitors can lead to a drop in blood pressure and an increased impairment of central nervous system and respiratory function. Simultaneous treatment with both substances should therefore be avoided.

Taking Hoggar Night with alcohol
Alcohol can change the effects of doxylamine in unforeseeable ways. Alcohol should be avoided while using Hoggar Night.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Hoggar Night may only be taken during pregnancy if specifically directed by a doctor. Since the active ingredient passes into breast milk, you should not breastfeed while using Hoggar Night. 

Application

The recommended dose is 1 orodispersible tablet (corresponding to 25 mg doxylamine hydrogen succinate).
For severe sleep disorders, 2 orodispersible tablets (corresponding to 50 mg doxylamine hydrogen succinate) can be taken as a maximum dose.
Take Hoggar Night approximately ½ to 1 hour before bedtime. 

Method of administration
Hoggar Night is for oral use. Place the orodispersible tablet on the tongue. The orodispersible tablet disintegrates immediately on the tongue and can be swallowed. Additional fluid intake is not necessary.

Duration of application
In the case of acute sleep disorders, treatment should be limited to individual doses if possible.
The duration of application must be as short as possible. In general, the duration of treatment can range from a few days to a week. The treatment should be stopped at the latest after 2 weeks of daily intake.

Use in special patient groups
A lower dose should be used in patients with impaired liver or kidney function, elderly or debilitated patients who are more sensitive to the effects of doxylamine.
Other medicines may be available for dosages that cannot be achieved with this medicine. 

Side effects

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):

  • Seizures of the brain.

Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):

  • Blood count changes (leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis),
  • life-threatening intestinal paralysis.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from available data):

  • In patients with an adrenal tumor (pheochromocytoma), the administration of antihistamines, which include this medicine, can lead to the release of substances from the tumor that have a very strong effect on the cardiovascular system.
  • Depressions,
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, difficulty concentrating, headache. At the same time, symptoms such as blurred vision, dry mouth, feeling of stuffy nose, increased intraocular pressure, constipation and problems with urination can occur, as well as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or increased appetite and pain in the stomach area.
  • Tinnitus,
  • rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, worsening of existing cardiac insufficiency and ECG changes,
  • drop or increase in blood pressure,
  • Impairment of respiratory function due to thickening of mucus and obstruction or narrowing of bronchi,
  • Liver dysfunction (cholestatic jaundice),
  • Allergic skin reactions and skin sensitivity to light (avoid direct sunlight),
  • muscle weakness,
  • Fatigue, fatigue, prolonged reaction time, disturbances in body temperature regulation, “paradoxical” reactions such as restlessness, agitation, tension, insomnia, nightmares, confusion, hallucinations, tremors.

The active ingredient is: doxylamine hydrogen succinate.
1 orodispersible tablet contains 25 mg doxylamine hydrogen succinate.

The other ingredients are:
Mannitol (E 421), corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, Betadex (E 459), sodium stearyl fumarate, crospovidone (type B), colloidal silicon dioxide, sucralose, strawberry flavor, rhubarb-vanilla flavor (contains glucose).
