Navela is an emergency contraceptive that can be used within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or failure of your usual method of contraception. Navela contains a synthetic hormone-like active substance called levonorgestrel. It prevents conception of about 85% of expected pregnancies if used within 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse. It does not prevent pregnancy in any case and is more effective if you use it as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse. It is better to take it within 12 hours than wait until the third day.
Navela is likely to work by preventing the egg from being released from the ovary, preventing sperm from fertilizing any egg that may have been released, or preventing the nesting of an already fertilized egg in the uterus.
Navela can only prevent pregnancy if you take it within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It does not work if you are already pregnant. This tablet is for emergency contraception only and should not replace any method of regular contraception as it is less effective.

Dosage and method of use

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Take the tablet as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours but no later than 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sexual intercourse. Do not delay taking your tablet. The more effective your tablet is from the unprotected sexual intercourse, the more effective it is. It can only protect you from pregnancy if you take it within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Ingredients

Each Navela tablet contains the main ingredient: Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg.
Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, Lactose monohydrate, Poloxamer 188, Croscarmellose sodium, Magnesium stearate.
