The Prima Home FER self-diagnostic test is used to determine the level of iron/ferritin from a whole blood sample . The test can be performed in case of symptoms such as paleness, fatigue, frequent migraines and widespread pain, palpitations and occasionally increased heart rate, muscle weakness. The test can be done at any time of the day , but must not be done in case of illness, acute inflammation, problems with the liver or spleen (positive results can occur even in the absence of actual iron deficiency). Ferritin is a protein that is responsible for storing iron in cells. A positive result means that the ferritin concentration is lower than 30 ng/ml. The test is very accurate , according to evaluation tests, they show an accuracy of 96.6% and a degree of agreement with reference methods. You will get the result in 5 minutes .

Iron and its function in the body

Iron is a necessary trace element for our body and is important for the transfer of oxygen in the blood , for the reproduction of cells and the formation of the structure of tissues and organs . However, too high a concentration of iron in the body is toxic. Therefore, each of us has a system for absorbing iron from the external environment (for example, by eating foods rich in iron content) and stores it in the cells so that its amount is not excessive (and therefore not toxic). Ferritin is a protein responsible for the iron storage function. The ferritin level is an excellent indicator to determine the amount of iron in the body. A low level of this protein in the blood is a sign of depleted iron stores, a condition that precedes the development of anemia. A decrease in iron in the body can be caused by anemia, pregnancy, bleeding, disorders in iron absorption and tuberculosis.
