Octenisept is a disinfectant for external use and for use on mucous membranes. Octenidine has a comprehensive germicidal effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi and certain viruses. The development of resistance of infectious agents (resistance) to octenidine is not to be feared due to the mode of action.

Areas of application:
For repeated, temporary antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and transitional epithelium before surgical interventions.
In the oral cavity z. B. before tooth extractions or curettage (surgical removal of a tissue), in the urogenital tract z. B. before hysterectomies (surgical removal of the uterus) and in the rectal area (e.g. before obliterating haemorrhoids).

In the vaginal area using an applicator spray head for uncomplicated bacterial and fungal infections

For temporary wound and seam care. For the temporary antiseptic treatment of infected skin wounds.

Octenisept can be used in adults and children without age restrictions. The harmlessness and safety of the application has also been proven in premature babies from the 24th week of pregnancy.

If you are unsuccessful or even get worse after repeated use, consult your doctor.

Contraindications

Octenisept must not be used if you are allergic to octenidine dihydrochloride or 2-phenoxyethanol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
The medicinal product should not be used for rinsing in the abdominal cavity (eg intraoperatively) and the urinary bladder or on the eardrum.

Use of Octenisept together with other medicines
Do not use with antiseptics (disinfectants) based on PVP-iodine on adjacent skin areas, since strong brown to violet discoloration can occur in the border areas.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
If necessary, the use of Octenisept during pregnancy can be considered. Current experience with pregnant women does not indicate any risk.

If necessary, Octenisept can be used during breast-feeding.

application

For use on the (mucous) skin.

Apply to the areas to be disinfected. For pack sizes of 50 ml, spray onto the areas to be disinfected. If necessary, rinsing can also be carried out, especially in the area of ​​the oral cavity. Wet the areas to be disinfected completely and leave to work for 1 minute.

When rinsing the oral cavity, approx. 20 ml Octenisept should be rinsed intensively for 20 seconds and an additional exposure time of one minute should be provided. Octenisept is used undiluted. The solution is not suitable for ingestion.

For skin disinfection (e.g. before caesarean section), the undiluted preparation should be left to act for 2 minutes.

The exposure time must always be observed and must not be shortened by drying beforehand.

For vaginal use, depress the applicator spray cap ten times in a row, see Using the applicator spray head. After completing the vaginal therapy with Octenisept, it is advisable to build up the vaginal flora using vaginal capsules containing lactobacilli in order to promote the restoration of the natural bacterial balance.

Use in children and adolescents
The use is identical for children, adolescents and adults.

side effects

General disorders and administration site conditions
Rare: temporary burning, redness, itching and warmth
Very rare: contact allergic reactions, such as temporary redness at the treated site possible

When rinsing in the oral cavity, the drug temporarily causes a bitter taste.
Incorrect use (e.g. injection into the tissue) can result in swelling and tissue damage, including tissue necrosis.

What Octenisept contains
